HOLY CRIME: Catholic Nun Kills Her Baby To Coverup Her Sexual Activities In The Seminary

A woman studying to become a Catholic nun has been charged in the District of Columbia with smothering her newborn son, police said.

The woman, 26-year-old Sosefina Amoa, gave birth to the boy Oct. 10 in her room at the Little Sisters of the Poor elderly care facility, police said. Afraid the nuns would hear the newborn's cries and discover she lied about sexual activity, police say Amoa told investigators she smothered him by placing a wool garment over the child's mouth and nose and applying pressure.

A day later she and a nun took his body, in a small black luggage bag, to a hospital, police said.

Investigators interviewed Amoa after she arrived at the hospital and say they found bloody clothing and small traces of blood during a search of the convent room where she had been staying.

Amoa was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder after the death was ruled a homicide by asphyxiation. Her attorney declined to comment on the case Friday.

The order said in a statement that they are praying for everyone involved.

"We all feel that this is a tragic situation," said Sister Constance Veit, communications director at Little Sisters of the Poor.

Amoa arrived from the island of Samoa on Oct. 5 and was considered a postulant, someone who wants to be admitted to the order.

She initially told investigators that she did not know she was pregnant but that she experienced significant bleeding just prior to delivering the baby, whom she named Joseph.

She later said she had not told the convent about her past sexual activity and that after the child stopped breathing, she contemplated putting it in the trash but decided against it, police said.

Police say they interviewed a nun at the convent who said Amoa showed her the child and initially told her that she had found the body outside. The nun says Amoa later told her that she had given birth to the child, and police say the two of them together took the body to the hospital.

“If I Have S*X, I Will Sing About It”, Gospel Musician, Maheeda

Musician Maheeda has always been known for courting controversy. So when the singer, who is famous for her semi-nudé photos, suddenly proclaimed last year that she was born-again, the news was received with amusement and disbelief.

And it seems they were right to take her “conversion” with a pinch of salt. The star, who became a gospel musician when she reportedly converted, is not born again anymore.

She has reportedly returned to her old ways of posting pictures of herself, half-clad, on the internet.

One of her fans apparently caught wind of her “backsliding” when she made a less than Christian comment and he challenged her by asking on Twitter if it was true that she was into gospel music. And to this Maheeda reportedly responded:

“My music is based on life. If I have séx, I will sing about it.”

Well, there you have it.

"if the pay is attractive I will do A movie with Fathia Balogun" - Saheed Balogun Reveals..

Balogun is one actor who has been trailed with several controversial issues. Recently, he spoke with DailyIndependent, on speculations surrounding his person and more.

What have you been up to since you produced your last movie, You or I?

First, I need to tell those who have not seen the movie what it is based on so that they can go and watch it. The movie focuses on the reasons marriages crash. Basically, it is a story about marriage and finding answers to the questions about the challenges of married couples. To answer your question, my production outfit sets records in the movie industry. I have produced a two-cast movie, one where all the characters wore Ankara fabric throughout and most recent a movie featuring an all white cast. So, we are putting finishing touches to another innovation that will be coming out soon.

Have you heard of my one-cast movie? That too is an innovation.

How would you describe its commercial success?

It was marvellous. Initially, the marketing was not what we expected, but it picked later and we thank God. The movie has delivered what we targeted when we began working on it. Besides, other achievements, it became the first two-cast movie in Nigeria, if not in Africa. That is a record and I set it.

Has it won any awards yet?

It won an award in London. In Nigeria, however, it is yet to win any. But I won’t dwell on that.

You seem to always get involved in one controversy or the other. Why is this so?

The grace of God has kept me going. I don‘t allow scandals to affect me. You need to understand that if someone is talking about you, you have to thank God because there are people who are looking for people to talk about them. My plea to writers is that they should contact me first before writing about me. Some of the things I have read about myself are things I can’t imagine myself doing.

Tell us about your current relationship because at a point in time they said you remarried secretly?

You see, you need to leave my relationship alone for now. When the right time comes, I will talk about it. The story that I remarried was a funny one.

What is your relationship with your ex-wife, Fathia?

You are still talking about my privacy.

What would be your reaction to a producer who pairs you and Fathia as a couple on a set?

I am a professional in this field. I will do it, if the pay is attractive. I used to refuse to think of the possibility before, but it can actually happen, if the pay is attractive I will do the movie with her.

Giving the opportunity, would you turn back the hands of time to be with your ex?

I am doing perfectly fine as I am. I am happy the way God has been leading my life. I respect women a lot.

What is the nature of your relationship with Remi Adikwu-Bakare?

She is like a mentor and a mother to me. She enlightens me on business and other matters. When I left the hospital, she and her husband were the people who were there for me. I can’t forget them for any reason. I was insane for the first two weeks that I had the accident. I was a dead man walking, but God used them to bring me back to life.

How soon do you hope to try married again?

It is a private question, but I am married to my business for now. I am married to Saidi Balogun Production. I can marry an actress if the person is the right one God has chosen for me.

How have you been coping with piracy in the Nigerian movie industry?

We have cried for a longtime to the government and we hope that one day they will find a solution to the menace. There is a law in Lagos State that if you are caught in the act, you will pay N50,000. In Ondo State, if you are caught selling pirated films, you will be fined. We go through a lot to produce our movies and instead of smiling to the banks, we end up not even making the production cost.

Can you compare the Nigerian movie industry with that of America?

The Nigerian movie industry is growing, but we can do better. Abroad, people spend good money in producing movies and they get good returns. However, in Nigeria, once you cannot make your money in the cinema, you are dead. I am looking forward to the day piracy will be eradicated.

You had a stint with music, but nothing has been heard of you musically afterwards, why is this?

I will go back to doing music very soon, but, for now, I am focusing more on movie production.

Are you not worried people would tag you a failed musician?

Over the years, I have learnt not to react to people’s comment about me and my career. People are naturally mischievous when they want to drag your name into the mud. If I consider myself a bad musician, I would not have ventured into it.

There was this talk about Globacom signing you as an ambassador, was it true?

Indeed there was a speculation, but like you said it was talks by some people. I don’t know anything about it.

Would you like to be a Globacom ambassador?

It is a two way thing. If they approach me, I may take it and I may not. It is the condition of the deal that matters. What the organisation is doing to the industry is good, but a lot still needs to be done to move it forward.

Tell us about the woman in your life

Some things are better kept private. I don’t want to raise unnecessary dust. I am doing just fine

SAD NEWS!! Boko Haram kills 19 IN Fresh Attack!!

Boko Haram gunmen dressed in military uniform have killed 19 people near the Nigerian border with Cameroon in the restive northeast, residents and a survivor say. The gunmen, armed with Kalashnikovs, blocked a highway on Sunday near the town of Logumani, 30km from the border around 5am local time, shooting and hacking to death 19 motorists and burning three trucks, residents said. "We have recovered 19 dead bodies from the scene of the attack by Boko Haram gunmen," Musa Abur, leader of a civilian vigilante group in the area, told the AFP news agency. "Five of the victims, who included two truck drivers and their assistants, were shot dead while the rest were slaughtered," he said. He said the gunmen had attacked the border town of Gamboru near Logumani late on Friday but were repelled by soldiers and local vigilantes. A similar account was given by another passenger. "We were asked to get out of our vehicles and lie face down by nine men dressed as soldiers who blocked the road around 5:00am," the man who gave his name as Buba told AFP. "They shot dead five people and went about slaughtering 14 others before someone called them on the phone that soldiers were heading their way," he said. "They abandoned the rest of us and sped into the bush on their motorcycles," added Buba who was shot in the leg. He said the attack had the hallmarks of Boko Haram. "We knew they were Boko Haram from their appearance. Soldiers don't wear beards but some of the gunmen were bearded," he said. "Everyone in this area knows Boko Haram is on the prowl, raiding villages and attacking vehicles. It has become a common occurrence." Boko Haram, whose name translates as "Western education is sinful", has had a long history of violence and has stepped up deadly attacks on civilians and schools in repraisal against vigilantes co-operating with the military. The group says it is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria's mainly Muslim north, but it is believed to be made up of different factions with varying aims.

INCREDIBLE!!! ASUU rejects N600b offer!!

Varsity teachers remained adamant last night, saying their strike would go on, despite the government’s shifting of its position. The strike has been on for four months. More cash has been pledged for projects on the campuses. Besides, the earned allowances due to the teachers have been increased from the initial N30 billion offer, which the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) rejected. The teachers are insisting on the 2009 agreement, which they say President Goodluck Jonathan was part of. Besides, they say, they do not trust the government. According to a circular by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, to the staff of the school, quoted yesterday by the news website, Sahara Reporters, the government has pledged to spend N200 billion on the universities in the 2014 budget and the same amount annually for the next three to four years. This is in addition to the N100 billion already made available this year, but which ASUU has rejected. The government has also increased to N40 billion, as a first installment, funds for the payment

improvement from the N30 billion previously released. On the earned allowances, Aluko said: “Government will top it up with further releases once universities are through with the disbursement of this new figure of N40 million. So, Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this disbursement within the shortest possible time using guiding templates that have been sent by the CVC,” the circular said. Aluko said the latest development followed meetings on September 19 and Oct 11 of representatives of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, led by its Chairman, Prof. Hamisu of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) and ASUU representatives led by its President, Dr.Nasir Fagge, with Vice-President Namadi Sambo and Minister of Education Nyesome Wike. A source in the Ministry of Education last night also confirmed that the meeting took place. “But the government decided to leave the announcement of the decision to the ASUU chiefs,” the source said. It was gathered that Sambo urged ASUU to call off the strike, as he apologised for the “take-it-or-leave-it” comments credited to Minister of Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the beginning of the strike. The Minister did not seem to have been involved in either meeting, perhaps as the government’s way of soothing the feelings of the university teachers. Other points of agreement at the meetings include: •Project Prioritisation: Universities will now be allowed to determine their priorities and not be “rail-roaded” into implementing a pre-determined set of projects with respect to the NEEDS assessment. Decisions are not to be centralized;

Intervention:

•TETFund

operations of the TETFund will not be impaired, and that the regular TETFund intervention disbursement to universities will continue, unaffected. So the NEEDS assessment capital

intervention; •Project Monitoring: A new Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the NEEDS Assessment intervention for universities has been set up to take over from the Suswam Committee. The new one is under the Federal Ministry of Education and chaired by the Minister of Education. In addition, to build confidence and ensure faithful implementation and prevent any relapse as before, the Vice President will meet quarterly with the implementors to monitor progress. .Blueprint: ASUU was mandated to submit a blueprint for revitalising the universities to the Vice President. Prof. Aluko stated that a signed document will soon be issued to itemise the full issues on which the consensus was reached. But ASUU last night was unimpressed with the new offer. National Treasurer Dr. Ademola Aremu said the offer failed to meet the teachers’ expectations. He said the offer falls short of the agreement signed with ASUU by the government. Aremu insisted that ASUU would not end the strike until the 2009 agreement is fully implemented by injecting N500 billion into the universities yearly to shore up the system’s quality. Aremu, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, said any offer below what is contained

repudiation of an agreement the government willingly signed in 2009. According to the unionist, ASUU is not making any new demand, but a mere implementation of an agreement. He pointed out that the Memorandum of Understanding

government would commit N1.5 trillion to the system in three years. He said: “ Even if the Federal Government made that promise, it would be a unilateral repudiation of the 2009 agreement. By now, the government should have injected N500 billion. That amounts to N100 billion in 2012 and N400 billion in the current year. “As a matter of fact, any new commitment from the Federal Government is belated. Implementation of the agreement ought to have started before this year. I don’t think there is any way we can trust this government, going by its past behaviour on this issue. “The mandate from our principal as at the last time we met was that we won’t end the strike until the agreement is fully implemented. “We do not need promises again. What we need now is actual implementation. What if they do not release the funds again after making the promise? “It was this same Mr President that mid-wifed the agreement in 2009 when he was the Vice President. The MoU was in his custody. He studied the agreement well before asking then President Umaru Yar’Adua to sign it. We can’t trust this government.

2 Women get a Miscarriage after Jealous friend who lost her unborn child Poisons them

A jealous woman poisoned two pregnant friends so they miscarried their babies.

Angela Maier, 26, was consumed with jealousy because she was desperate to have a baby of her own but had suffered three miscarriages.

When she then learned that her sister-in-law and best friend were pregnant she became so depressed that she snapped and poisoned the women’s drinks with medicine she was prescribed after her miscarriage.

Maier told a court in Klagenfurt, Austria: “I couldn’t stand the thought of them having babies who would be growing up when mine was dead.

“Mine should have been with them as well, but instead mine died while theirs went on.”

The court heard how the woman and her best friend had become pregnant at the same time, and had been shopping for baby clothes and planning together.

The friend said: “I asked for a glass of water, and she said she had a special drink for pregnant women, that she didn’t need any more.

“A short while later I started to bleed, and then I lost the baby. When I found out what she had done, I wrote back and told her she was a murderer. I can’t forgive her.”

Two months later she invited her sister-in-law to visit and did the same thing again, mixing the medicine into her hot chocolate, and then ‘watched me as I drank it’, the victim told the court.

The court heard it led to both pregnant women suffering miscarriages.

Maier went on to have a baby of her own, and now has a three-year-old daughter.

Two years later, she decided to confess to the women when she found out they had become pregnant again.

She was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with 14 months suspended, after the court ruled that she was psychologically sound although she had, it accepted, been suffering from depression.

Judge Michaela Sanin said: “You maliciously took the lives of two unborn babies.”

UNBELIEVABLE!! Saudi cleric gets 8 years in prison For Raping & Killing 5 Year-Old Daughter!!

An ultraconservative Muslim preacher in Saudi Arabia was sentenced to eight years in prison and 800 lashes for raping and beating his five-year-old daughter to death, official media said Tuesday. Fayhan al-Ghamdi, who often preached on television, was convicted of beating his daughter Lama with canes, burning her with electrical cables, crushing her skull and tearing off her nails. She was also raped repeatedly and died months later in a Saudi hospital. The kingdom follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery are capital crimes, with execution mostly by firing squad. The case of Lama caused a public outcry and brought to light sensitive issues surrounding the ambiguity of punishment for Saudi fathers found guilty of murdering their own children. Much less serious crimes often receive heavier punishment. Earlier this week, a Saudi court gave four young men sentences of between three to 10 years prison and 500 to 2,000 lashes for dancing naked in public in the city of Buraydah, north of Riyadh. The Saudi official news website Sabq reported that the hard-line Muslim preacher was not given a harsher sentence because Lama’s mother accepted 1 million riyals, roughly $267,000, from her ex-husband as “blood money,” allowed in litigation under Saudi law. The Egyptian mother, who acquired Saudi nationality through her ex-husband, was quoted in Arab Gulf-based media saying she is a poor single woman with no income. By accepting the money, she waived the right to demand retribution, or “qisas,” against al-Ghamdi for the death of their daughter. It was not immediately known if she was pressured to accept the deal. Lama’s mother told broadcaster Al-Arabiya that al-Ghamdi took their daughter from her for a two-week visit in 2011 to his home with his second wife and other children. Months went by and he refused to allow the mother to see her daughter. The mother wears a full face veil and her name was not revealed. Lama was then taken to a hospital, where she died in intensive care in late 2012. “I saw her and I swear to God I didn’t recognize her,” the mother told the news channel, describing the moment she saw her daughter’s disfigured face and body in the hospital. “I felt there is no mercy among humans.” “She was beaten from the head to the toe, all black and blue all over her body,” the mother said. Al-Ghamdi had previously said he had been guided by God after having a temper during his adolescent years, although Lama’s mother says otherwise. “He used to beat me for no reason and raise a knife to me,” she told popular Saudi station Rotana Khalijia, adding that al-Ghamdi also did not provide basic household necessities. “A man who does not even give money to (feed) his own daughter is not a preacher,” she said, adding that al-Ghamdi did not practice what he preached on television, taking drugs, drinking alcohol and sometimes breaking obligatory Muslims fasts.

31 year old Woman Posed As Teen To Have sex With 14-Year-Old, Kept Victim Locked In House

A 31-year-old Florida woman is accused of posing as a teenager in order to have sex with a 14-year-old boy.

Naomi Dixon is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery involving a sex act with a child, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal. The victim told Volusia County sheriff’s investigators that he met Dixon at a party in early September. Dixon allegedly claimed she was 17 years old, and the victim said he was 14.

After the two met, they had sex at her Deltona home eight times and stayed together regularly, the victim said. According to a sheriff’s report, the victim had a hard time leaving Dixon’s home. On several occasions when he tried to go home, she became upset, locked the door and even choked him.

The victim claimed the woman carved his first initial onto her arm with a pocket knife. He told his parents about the relationship on Sept. 25 after growing tired of the woman trying to keep him at her house.

When she was arrested Thursday, Dixon at first denied she had sex with the boy. She also insisted she thought he was 18. She is being held at Volusia County Branch Jail on $50,000 bail.

Predatory posers aren’t uncommon. In June 2012, a 24-year-old Massachusetts woman was arrested after posing as a teenage boy in order to have sex with a 15-year-old West Virginia girl. According to court documents, Carissa Hads hid her breasts by wearing a black brace, and used a prosthetic man-hood in an encounter with the minor.

In 2011, an Ohio woman created a fake Facebook profile and posed as an “attention-grabbing teenage girl” in order to gather incriminating information about her estranged husband. Her covert operation actually ended up getting her husband arrested, after he reportedly installed a tracking device on his wife’s car.

Sexy TV Presenter Sacked For Revealing Her Boobs (PHOTOS)

This lady (pictured above) has lost her job at a Turkish TV station after she was accused of wearing an “unacceptable” dress. The lady, who is identified as Miss Kansu, is accused of taking her fashion sense to the “extreme”.

“We don’t intervene against anyone, but this is too much. It is unacceptable,” said government spokesman.

Turkish citizens are divided over the issue. Some say it is a welcome development as it would make ladies to learn to be moderate in their dressing, especially those who appear on televtion, as kids too watch TV.

But others, mostly ladies, are saying she shouldn’t have been sacked.

What is your take on this?

Gov. Oshiomhole Signs Death Penalty Law For Kidnapping!!

Edo state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has signed into law, the bill which prescribes death penalty to kidnappers. The law which is an amendment of the Edo state kidnapping law also prescribes that any premises used by kidnappers will be demolished. Governor Oshiomhole has recently been in a dilemma on whether the death penalty should apply to kidnappers who commit murder during the act and those who do not. Today, he declared that the death penalty applies to all acts of kidnapping whether it involved murder or not, while calling on youths to desist from the criminality as an excuse for unemployment. Some of the suspects paraded by the Police in Edo state earlier this week may face the death penalty if found guilty of the crime courtesy of the Bill just signed into law by the governor. The Governor appealed to parents and guardians to be wary of the activities of their wards as criminality should not be an excuse for unemployment. The governor also assured that no special tribunals will be set up to try cases of kidnapping, as that is a feature of the military era. This he said to relieve concerns over the slow judicial system in Nigeria. It will be recalled that Human Rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) urged government to grant amnesty to kidnappers, after being a victims of these kidnappers whiule on his way to his home country in Edo state

Couple Sell Their Infant Daughter For iPhone.

A young Chinese couple are facing criminal punishment for “selling” their infant daughter and using the proceeds to buy an Apple iPhone, state media said Friday.

Shanghai prosecutors have brought a case against them for human trafficking after they illegally put their third child up for adoption online and accepted money for the baby, the Liberation Daily reported.

Investigators found the mother, whose full name was not given, used the money to buy an iPhone, high-end sports shoes and other goods, it said.

Apple’s products are wildly popular in China, where a teenager sold his kidney and used the funds to buy an iPhone and iPad in an incident widely reported last year.

But the couple told police that they wanted the girl to have a better upbringing than they could afford, since they already had two children.

“Giving away the child was not for obtaining benefits, but giving the child better guarantees,” one said.

Some Chinese, especially in rural areas, have a traditional preference for sons though reports did not say if the child’s gender was also a factor in the case.

Online commentary condemned the couple, though some used black humour to describe modern Chinese society and the quest for wealth.

“So cold-blooded! These people do not deserve the right to be parents!” said Wangzhan1969 in a microblog posting.

“This is good business — no capital, huge profit and no need to sell kidneys,” said another posting.

An official of the prosecutor’s office handling the case expressed worry over “sensationalism” surrounding the affair but declined to comment further to AFP.

Shanghai police could not be reached for comment.

Reports did not give the amount the couple received for the child, but their online postings asked for 30,000 yuan and 50,000 yuan ($4,900 and $8,200).

Apple last month launched the iPhone 5s, including a gold-coloured model, and the more budget-conscious iPhone 5c in China.

Fans mob Emenike in Lagos!!

Super eagles’ hero in the first leg, final round of the World Cup qualification tie against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa, Emmanuel Emenike was on Tuesday mobbed by football fans at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos as he returned to his base in Turkey. Emenike scored two goals for Nigeria in the 2-1 triumph over Ethiopia in Addis Ababa last Sunday to give the Eagles the advantage ahead of the second leg slated for November 16 in Calabar. The Fenerbahce forward was overwhelmed despite the tight security he came to the Airport with. He arrived at about 9pm with his entourage but could not beat the desperate fans to it, as he was forced to give out cash and club Jerseys, while he made his way into the departure lounge. Speaking exclusively to NationSport Emenike said: “I find joy playing for Nigeria and making this people happy, though sometimes I get angry when things are not in order but I love playing for this country at anytime,” “I am not Super Eagles’ messiah. My feat has been by the help of God, I am just trying to make myself and Nigerians happy. “ Goals can come from anybody, so I count myself lucky when I do it for my country and I intend to keep the scoring form.” Asked why he didn’t celebrate as expected after scoring both goals, he said: “I don’t believe celebrating in Addis Ababa is worth it because the job is not concluded yet. We played with a lot of pressure, we were intimidated in so many ways but I am happy we conquered our fears,” “I will celebrate with Champagne after the win in Calabar. I will bathe the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials and the coaches with bottles of Champagne in Calabar,” he declared.

SHOCKER!! 500 Nigerian youths Are in Japanese prisons!!

NO fewer than 500 Nigerian youths are languishing in Japanese prisons over alleged drugs and other related offences, a Nigerian-born cleric, Bishop Enoch Adebayo, has said. Adebayo, who is the President of the Nigeria-Japan Chamber of Commerce based in Japan, told newsmen in Lagos, yesterday, that the Federal Government should take immediate action to save the lives of the youths. He said: “But the Chamber has been educating more than 3,000 Nigerians among them and the youths resident in Japan, that the future of Nigeria is very rosy and bountiful, which will propel Nigeria to come a world power in the next 10 years. “Nigerian youths should be honest, hardworking, resourceful, faithful and be able to plan ahead. We have been educating them not to cross the ‘red line’ in order not to fall into the same temptation and mistakes our past leaders found themselves.” He urged Nigerian leaders to live by example because the youths and their children are watching their footsteps.” Bishop Adebayo disclosed that the Nigeria-Japan Chamber of Commerce was working to attract many manufacturing companies, including vehicle manufacturers, to Nigeria. He added that government should provide an enabling environment for Nigerian businessmen to operate, so that they will stop relocating.

A 25-year-old labourer, Musa Haruna, on Thursday appeared before an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with stealing of 20 pairs of shoes. Haruna, of no fixed address is facing a two-count charge of burglary and stealing. The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, said that the accused on Oct. 14 at about 2:00 a.m. burgled shop F-12 at Arena shopping plaza, Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos, and stole 20 pairs of shoes belonging to one Mrs Joy Ike. “He came with sophisticated tools to break the burglary gate, padlocks and doors. “The security guard attached to the plaza saw the accused going out of the plaza with a bag on his head. “He checked the content of the bag and discovered that the accused had packed shoes into a ‘Ghana must go’ sack and was ready to escape,’’ Olatunde said. ASUU Strike Update: FG Finally Agrees to Meet ASUU’s Demands after Over 100 Days

Towards ending the ongoing ASUU strike, the Federal Government has committed to spending N200 billion in the 2014 budget on the universities as well as on each of the next three-four years until the universities are brought to world-class standard as demanded by ASUU leadership.

This is in addition to the N100 billion dedicated and already made available… Government has also increased to N40billion as a first installment, funds for payment of earned allowances to the striking lecturers, an improvement from the N30 billion previously released.

This information is contained in an internal statement at the Federal University of Otuoke by Professor Bolaji Aluko, its Vice-Chancellor.

On the earned allowances, Prof. Aluko said “Government will top it up with further releases once universities are through with the disbursement of this new figure of N40 million, so Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this disbursement within the shortest possible time using guiding templates that have been sent by the CVC.”

Professor Aluko said the development followed meetings on September 19 and Oct 11 of representatives of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, led by Prof. Hamisu of ATBU and ASUU reps led by its President, Dr. N. Fagge with the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arc. Namadi. Sambo, Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike and others.

In the interest of peace, Vice-President Sambo appealed to ASUU to call off the strike and apologized over the “take-it-or-leave-it” comments made by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Other points of agreement at the meetings include the following: Project Prioritization: Universities will now be allowed to determine their priorities and not be “rail-roaded” into implementing a pre-determined set of projects with respect to the NEEDS assessment. Decisions are not to be centralized.

TETFund Intervention: Government assured that the operations of the TETFund will not be impaired, and that the regular TETFund intervention disbursement to Universities will continue, unaffected. So the NEEDS assessment capital outlays are in addition to regular TETFund intervention.

Project Monitoring: A new Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the NEEDS Assessment intervention for universities has been set up to take over from the Suswan Committee. The new one is under the Federal Ministry of Education and chaired by the Honorable Minister of Education. In addition, to build confidence and ensure faithful implementation and prevent any relapse as before, the Vice President will meet quarterly with the IMC to monitor progress.

Blueprint: ASUU was mandated to submit a blue print for revitalizing the Universities to the Vice President. ASUU leadership will now meet to decide if the government should be trusted again, this time.

WONDERFUL!! Check-out World Most Expensive Bra For N1.6 Billion!!!

After seeing this bra worth $10 million – which is protected by two bodyguards, that sweaty sports bra just won’t cut it. Wednesday marked the big reveal for Victoria’s Secret, when the lingerie giant unveiled its 2013 Fantasy Bra as well as the Victoria’s Secret model wearing it, who will be Candice Swanepoel. Swanepoel, the 23-year-old South African model, will don the “Royal Fantasy Bra,” worth $10 million, for the 2013 holiday catalog as well as the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, set to air Dec. 10. "I’ve never worn anything this pricey, and we have to put gloves on when we put it on," Swanepoel told People. "It’s kind of a big ordeal. The bra comes with two bodyguards and we have to handle it with a lot of care!" This year, the Fantasy Bra and matching belt were designed by jeweler Mouawad. The ensemble is adorned with more than 4,200 gems from around the world including rubies, diamonds and yellow sapphires. The bra also is hand-set in 18-carat gold with a 52-carat ruby in the center, according to a press release. Swanepoel also added that the designer had to make a mold of her body to craft the bra. This is Swanepoel’s first time wearing the bra, which has been worn by legendary models like Tyra Banks, Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum, Miranda Kerr, Adriana Lima and Claudia Schiffer. Last year, Alessandra Ambrosio donned the million-dollar bra, which was worth a fraction of this year’s design, at $2.5 million. Still, though, this year’s is not the most expensive; The priciest bra ever, the “Red Hot Fantasy Bra,” was worn by Bundchen in 2000 and cost a whopping $15 million. The bra, which is marketed as the ultimate holiday gift by Victoria’s Secret parent company, Limited Brands Inc., has never sold since 1996, when the concept was first introduced, according to the Wall Street Journal. The 1996 Fantasy bra was worn by Claudia Schiffer and cost $1 million, the cheapest one ever. It emerged for the first time on the runway during the annual show in 2001, when Heidi Klum wore the “Heavenly Star Bra.”

Crash-site robberies

THE recent sad crash of Associated Airlines plane just outside the perimeter fence of the domestic wing of Murtala Mohammad Airport, Lagos exposed, once again, an ugly side of our society, which has become a regular occurrence.

As soon as the crash took place, people rushed to the scene. Majority of them were genuine sympathisers eager to lend a helping hand to save fellow Nigerians, dead or dying, from a most traumatic accident.

But among these were hoodlums, whose primary agenda wasto rob the victims of their material belongings. These are usually the first to arrive accident scenes because it ensures they would be able to loot as much as possible before the law enforcement agents and well-meaning rescuers would arrive.

It is a pity that it is these evil people that always get there first rather than the law enforcement personnel and other specialised agents trained and equipped for rescue operations, who ought to get there first and secure the scene to enable full, professional processing of accident scene.

Time has come when the authorities specially set up to deal with these sorts of emergencies engaged the public to partner with them in securing crash sitesagainst the invasion of thieves and looters, whose activities invariably compromise investigation that helps to prevent future occurrences.

There is also need for the government, the mediaand civil societyto debunk the notion that air travel isa pastime, which the rich and the corrupt engage in to show off their affluence.

Viewsbeing expressed by many commentators in the social media networks give the impression that plane crashes are like judgementspronounced on the rich and corrupt. Itis this mentality that drives urchins, who invade crash sitesto commence orgiesof looting of victims.

Our people must be made to understand that air travel is part and parcel of modern society; just another means of transport. Everyperson, irrespective of their social standing, will have the opportunity or need to travel by air some time in their lives.

They must also understand that the wealthy people are not necessarilythe enemies of the poor and vice versa. Not everyso-called wealthyperson is corrupt or achieved that status by oppressing the poor. We live in a society, where social mobility is free. Nigeria isnot one of those societies, where the poor have no hope.

The truth isthat those, who engage in this evil act also practise it upon road accident victims, which shows the act for what it really is: Evil criminalitythat every right thinking member of society must shrink from. The law enforcement agents, on getting to crash sitesof anysort, must be prepared to apprehend culprits, parade them and visit the full weight of law on them.

ASUU STRIKE: ERC welcomes NUT, NUPENG and NUEE’s decision to call solidarity strike

The Education Rights Campaign (ERC) hassaid that it welcomes the decision of three trade unions – the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) – to embark on solidaritystrike actionsto compel the Federal Government to honour agreementssigned with the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU).

The National Coordinator of the ERC, Mr. Hassan Soweto said thisin a statement to newsmen recently. Soweto urged the three unions to take this beyond the realm of threats and immediately name a day on which the solidarity strike would take place. He said that the unions should begin “active mobilisation of their rank and file members as well asstudentswho are frustrated at home and concerned Nigerians to come out en-masse for mass protests and demonstrations on this day.”

Adding, the ERC Boss said: “We commend the three unions for taking this decision which we believe is in the best interest of the education sector and the Nation at large. We agree that the ASUU strike has gone on for far too long and the plethora of strikes in the education sector are just too many. Slowlythe entire public education sector is grindingto a halt. For instance, the public polytechnics are equally closed and it will not be too long before the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) follow suit. The Colleges of Education lecturers had recently held a 7-day warning strike. Indeed, the Academic Staff of Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) had to resume the strike, they had suspended in July after three months, due to the insensitivityand insincerity of government to their demands and termsof the suspension of the last strike.”

SAD NEWS!! Businessman murdered for refusing to settle Area Boys!!

A businessman, Charles Ugwu, has been killed in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, over his refusal to settle some street urchins, popularly known as area boys. The incident was said to have occurred at Uzor Street, Ajegunle, on September 24 2013. A tyre dealer, Ugwu was said to have been accosted by two area boys, identified as Saturday and Chimezie, while offloading goods from a vehicle to his shop. The deceased’s wife, Stella, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, told PUNCH Metro that her husband had resisted the thugs’ efforts to extort money from him resulting in the assault on her husband. She said, “Around 9pm on that day, two young men, known as Saturday and Chimezie, accosted us saying they would not allow us to continue working until we settle them. “We asked them why we should pay them because the goods had nothing to do with the hoodlums. Saturday was “annoyed; he walked away only to return with stones, which he threw at us. When my husband cautioned him to stop causing trouble, Saturday picked up a “stick and struck Ugwu on the neck.” Ugwu was said to have fallen to the ground while all efforts to revive him failed. We learnt that immediately after Ugwu was killed, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajegunle Police Station, Mr. Abayomi Agbana, was contacted. Agbana was said to have dispatched policemen to the area and the two suspects were arrested. The bereaved wife lamented the hardship that had been brought on the family due to her husband’s death. She said, “Who will train my children for me? Ugwu was a good father and husband; he was much too young to die. We loved each other so much. How can my three children be fatherless at these ages? Our first is just 15 years old. The second is 12 years and the last child is nine. These hoodlums have wiped out the joy of my life.” In his statement at the police station, Saturday claimed that he actually demanded money from the businessman but had nothing to do with his death. He said while demanding money from Ugwu, Stella told her husband not to part with any money. Saturday claimed that at that instant, Stella held his singlet. He alleged that Chimezie and the deceased were trying to appeal to Stella to let go of the suspect when the businessman suddenly collapsed. He insisted that neither him nor his accomplice had fought Ugwu. Chimezie was also said to have alleged, in his statement, that he was trying to appeal to Stella when her husband suddenly collapsed. He claimed that no form of violence had been used on the deceased. We also gathered that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, for further investigation. The victim’s younger brother, Francis, said the family was ready to bury the corpse but police had yet to release the body. He said, “The police have insisted that the autopsy report must be done before the body would be released.” Detectives at the SCID have however blamed the ongoing doctors’ strike for the delay. A detective, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity on Tuesday, said, “Many bereaved families have been complaining since the doctors strike started. This is because they want to bury their loved ones but cannot take away their corpses because autopsy reports have not been done. The situation is worrisome and embarrassing in some cases.” The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Ngozi Braide, said she would call back when contacted for information on the case. She had yet to do so as of 8pm.

Nigerian Rappers Can Outdo Jay-Z In A Freestyle –Vector

If I didn’t read the interview myself, I’d think it was a lie, but there it is in print. In an interview with Encomium Magazine, Vector put it out there that he believes that he and some other Nigerian rappers can outdo Jay-Z in a freestyle battle.

Here is what he said when asked what he’d do if he had a moment with Jay-Z:

If you had a moment with Jay Z, what will you tell him? I will really like to freestyle with him. I hear he doesn’t write in the studio and that’s cool but somewhere in my head I’m thinking we can outdo that guy. I’d like for him to see that hip-hop for Naija no be beans.

Well, we’re not sure if Vector was in his right frame when he said it or if he meant to say it the way it came out, but you gotta admire the confidence. Whatever the case is, Vector needs more people for us to believe this. Or what do you think? Does he make a point? Can a Nigerian rapper actually outdo Jay-Z in a freestyle battle?

Davido Approved Skelewu Video Before The Released – Video Director; Sesan Releases Press Statement!

Nigerian star singer, Davido tweeted yesterday that the video of his hit single “skelewu” released online wasn’t the official one and someone betrayed him by releasing it. He also said he’s re-shooting the video with UK based music video director Moe Musa. Here’s the official statement from the music video director, Sesan regarding the Skelewu video which was released yesterday shot by him.

Below his Sesan statement:

My attention is drawn toward the chaos surrounding the release of the Skelewu video . Myself and my team shot the video for Davido in Nigeria and to the best of my knowledge my client and his team were very happy with the result, when they watched/ and approved the video. If he has since had a change of heart, that is ok. I am not in any way responsible for the release of the video. I believe Davido and myself did a very good job regarding the video production and as a professional of over 10 years. I find it very irresponsible and immature if my client and his management publicly put out false statements/comments, in an attempt to tarnish my name, credibility and reputation.

I remain dedicated, humble, focused and as hard working as ever. Thank you to all my fans and industry professionals –

Stay blessed.
